Engineer, Fixed Equipment in Houston, TX
Description
The Fixed Equipment Engineer is responsible for proactive fixed equipment and piping engineering and reliability support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support and advise on key static equipment and mechanical integrity considerations. This may include but is not limited to:
- Fitness-For-Service assessments
- Piping stress and flexibility analysis and troubleshooting
- Fired heater design and troubleshooting
- Heat exchanger design and troubleshooting
- Bolted Flange Joint design and troubleshooting
- Valve and Gasket selection
- Boiler design and troubleshooting
- Assist fixed/static equipment design, material selection, reliability, and construction quality assurance.
- Provide engineering support to Operations, to include engineering of temporary and permanent repair solutions.
- Perform Level 1 and 2 Engineering Fitness for Service assessments per API 579.
- Provide input during new construction design model reviews.
- Review fabrication drawings and design calculations for complex and critical equipment.
- Conduct field walkdowns for critical areas during new construction.
- Stay current with regulations, industry standards, engineering, inspection and repair methods, and applicable technologies and propose program improvements as appropriate.
- Assist inspectors planning mechanical integrity assurance programs and preventative maintenance programs for OSHA, PSM, EPA, SPCC and DOT covered assets.
Requirements
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- A minimum of three years' experience in engineering, inspection, testing, repairs and alterations of fixed equipment in a refining, petrochemical, chemical, midstream, or similar processing units is required.
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (ABET EAC accredited program) is required; B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- This position requires travel to Company facilities outside of Houston/Mont Belvieu up to 20% of your time
- Engineering Fitness for Service (FFS) assessment experience is preferred.
- Experience in industry standard software tools including CAESAR II, Mathcad, PCMS, etc. are preferred
- Excellent communications skills and computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
- Working knowledge of the Federal and State regulations affecting fixed equipment, including Process Safety Management (PSM), DOT and EPA RMP requirements is preferred.
- Technical knowledge and practical working experience in condition and time-based inspection processes, non-destructive examination (NDE) method selection and fixed equipment defect assessment and repair is preferred.
- Candidate should be well versed in ASME Section VIII Div. 1 and 2, ASME B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8, ASME PCC-1, ASME PCC-2, TEMA Standards, and other industry standards.
- Working knowledge of damage mechanisms occurring in fixed equipment in petrochemical and midstream environments is preferred.
