The Inland Deckhand will be responsible in assisting with the safe and careful operation of a marine vessel. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- General housekeeping duties and vessel maintenance, which may include cooking, sweeping, mopping, painting, and equipment repair.
- Moving and operating portable pumps.
- Transferring and laying rigging, handling lines, shifting barges, dropping or picking up barges, and checking the tow.
- Assisting via radio communication to wheelhouse while navigating through lock and under bridges.
- Assisting in bulk liquid transfers.
- Catch a line on deck fittings, work lines at locks, cast lines free when getting underway, and assist in the navigation of the boat from the deck.
Requirements
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.
- A valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) is required.
- Ability to communicate clearly with office, vessel crew and dock personnel is required.
- Ability to get along with others in close quarters and be flexible to work any schedule is required.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete physical exam and drug test is required. This exam includes visual acuity, color vision, hearing and speech discrimination as well as medical evaluation and physical assessment.
- Experience in Tugboat, Commercial Fishing, Oilfield, Heavy Equipment, Operations, Commercial Farming, and/or Shipyard is preferred.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions is required.
- Ability to utilize strength and balance is required, as you may be performing duties on a moving platform.
- Ability to work in confined or small spaces is required.
- Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs is required.
